Roger enjoyed himself so much during last year’s race that he had no hesitation in applying to run again on behalf of Children with Leukaemia. Already training hard, Roger is hoping to beat last year’s already impressive time of 5 hours 15 minutes – even more impressive when you consider he was running his first ever competitive race at the age of 63!
The Children with Leukaemia charity was inaugurated by Diana, Princess of Wales in 1988 and Roger was aware of its very worthwhile work through the support it gave to two pupils at his sons’ school.
Last year Roger raised £1500 for the charity through sponsorship of his marathon efforts and has set up a new website where people can pledge their support this year. He says, “The Fire Industry is known for its generosity and I appeal to everyone to help me raise as much as I possibly can for this wonderful charity!”
