Fire Alarm Module 2

Maintenance of Fire Detection & Alarm Systems for Commercial & Industrial Premises

BS 5839-1: 2002 as amended 2004 and 2008.

This is an intensive one-day course 9.00-5.00, which should suit maintenance engineers and maintenance managers.

The format includes tests are spread through the day, mainly multiple choice, but with some calculations.
Delegates achieving 75% in the assessment tests will receive a pass Certificate.

Session 1

Revision of fire alarm system Categories, for a building (i.e. L1 to L5, P1 to P2)
The Law applicable to maintenance of fire alarm equipment and battery backup.
Responsibilities for the Competent Person (CP) engineer, and for the Responsible Person (RP) at the building.
Training the RP regarding faults, pre-alarms, alarms and the effect of building works on the fire alarm system.

Session 2

Routine inspections and test, for the RP weekly and monthly.
Periodic inspection and servicing by the CP.
Annual inspection and servicing by the CP.

Session 3

Non-routine attention by the CP, including helping to reduce false alarms from automatic fire detection and from malicious activations..
Good working practice and testing methods for detectors and equipment.

Session 4

Battery current measurements and calculations.
False alarms reduction when connected to a [remote] Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC).
Testing ancillaries and the connection to the ARC.
